I used to hate anything that involved needles. If I even heard the word needle-I would start sweating and get really uncomfortable. That was until I got introduced to the world of micro-needles (there an exception for everything right? Mine is vanity). A colleague of mine told me about this wonderful device that you rolled on your face, poking little holes in order to increase collagen production and help your skin absorb skin products better. So basically an aerator for your face. I figured since people pay good money for holes to be poked in their lawns, there had to be something to this. I did some research on the roller and saw that others were just as happy with the roller as my friend had been. As I got to reading the product information, it read “the roller uses tiny needles..” Shit, needles. I took a few deep breaths and continued reading and looked at pictures of the device. The needles were hardly visible and the roller came in purple (my favorite color). At that moment I knew it was time to get over my fear for the greater good-better skin. In my shopping cart it went.
When it arrived, I was still a little nervous to try it. So I did what all good sisters do- I let my sister try it first. After I watched her try it and she didn’t cry, I was ready to give it a try. I couldn’t even feel it (score!). I started to use it every night before bed. I would first wash my face, getting all my make up off. I would then put a serum on and roll in over my “problem” areas, or areas that I never wanted to be a problem. That included my checks, chin, and forehead (I kept it away from my eye areas). I then put on my normal face products, and went to bed. I started to notice a difference within a week! My skin started to look better and my melasma stated to fade a little. I also noticed little scars started to disappear.
After a few weeks, I decided to try it on my lips. Like most girls, I would love bigger lips. I normally use a lip plumper/hydrating serum at night. I figured if it helped with the absorption of my facial products, it should help with my lip products. I was right! I noticed the same difference I did when I first started using it on my face. I felt that the product was being absorbed better, and my lips were noticeably plumper when I would wake up. If I wasn’t completely sold on the roller before, I was after this. The next area I am going to give it a try on is my scalp with the use of scalp serums. Stay tuned for the results of that 🙂
Overall, I think this is a must have for everybody’s nightly beauty routine. Some of the benefits that others have seen with it are:
- -Helps reduce and soften scars from injury, acne, and surgery.
- -Helps diminish appearance of stretch marks, fine lines, wrinkles, cellulite, and large pores.
- -Helps to increase absorption and penetration of serums and creams within the skin
- -Helps smooth uneven skin texture, uneven skin color (pigmentation), and heavy pitted skin
Another great thing about the roller is it’s price. At under $25, this device allows you to jump on the micro-needle train without much investment. There are quite a few companies that sell the rollers, but I have personally used the ORA Dermal Roller System. You can order it from drugstores like CVS, or even keep a look out for it on sites like Hautelook and Groupon. For all of those that give it a try, feel free to leave your experiences below!
